Warning! Hackers!

Sunday, July 1st, 2007

Eeeek… I just read the following article from an adult advice and news website.
“Is Your Son a Computer Hacker?
As an enlightened, modern parent, I try to be as involved as possible in the lives of my six children. I encourage them to join team sports. I attend their teen parties with them to ensure no [...]

‘Vista Only’ Games Cracked

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

As previously predicted, the so-called ‘Vista Only’ games have been cracked to work on DirectX 9 and thus Windows XP.
“News has filtered through on this last week of June that the first week of June released and infinitely forgettable Shadowrun has already been hacked to work on DirectX 9 and therefore Windows XP. P2P fans’ [...]

Which way do you like to do?

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

Occasionally, and unfortunately I sometimes need to use Microsoft Windows. I recently updated my wireless card’s drivers and was presented with this brilliantly translated message. No worries though - new wireless card soon should fix a lot of bugs such as getting disconnected every few minutes (grr). I’ll miss messages like this though…

Get Linux

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

Novell, a company that creates one of the many Linux distributions, has created advertisements which parody Apple’s ‘Get A Mac’ series. As expected, they show Linux favourable, over the ‘PC’ and Mac systems. Will it be these sort of gimmicky ads. which make the name ‘Linux’ more commonly heard by the general public?

Monday, August 14th, 2006

The Nintendo Wii will be released, within the next three months, with 27 confirmed launch titles.
Some comparisons: The Xbox 360 launched with 18 titles, and the PS3 is set to be released with 15 confirmed titles on it’s 17th November launch date. The following list of confirmed titles for the Wii (along with their publishers) [...]

Legal Music equals Prison

Tuesday, August 1st, 2006

It’s approximately too early on the 1st of August, and I feel like a moan. DRM or Digital Rights Management - I hate it. Seems I’m not the only one either.
DRM, for those not in the know, is the technology which manages access to your music and video, enabling it to be securely played. Now [...]

Apple goes bankrupt, Microsoft ‘buys out’ the iPod design

Monday, July 24th, 2006

Finally, Apple has been taken over. Although I’d have preferred the Apple to go to some open-source Linux community, which would have been better, at least it has gone to Microsoft. Based on recent news, Microsoft have purchased all relevent patents from Apple employees, and intend to ‘relauch’ the iPod under a new name and [...]

Redmond goes bye-bye

Thursday, June 22nd, 2006

“Linux wasn’t started as any kind of rebellion against the ‘evil Microsoft empire.’
I’m not out to destroy Microsoft. That will just be a completely unintentional side effect.”
–Linus Torvalds (to the New York Times)
I do love that quote.
About a month or two ago I switched from Microsoft Windows to Ubuntu Linux, and since then I [...]

Microsoft Office versus OpenOffice (For Students)

Saturday, June 17th, 2006

One of my friends recently found an advert from Microsoft for the Student Edition of Microsoft Office, and with my ever amusing digital image editing skills I tweaked it slightly.
Tell me, oh students out there, which price do you prefer?

Ship’s Autopilot Fails due to Windows Error

Saturday, June 17th, 2006

This is quite old news, but none the less it is funny.
One of the Navy’s ships used a Windows NT powered network to automate many of the functions of the ship, is meant to reduce the number of people needed to operate a ship. This dependance on Windows NT brought predictable results: the USS Yorktown [...]
