Small tweaks, fiddles, update and HTML dohickeys
By DivineOmega | May 24, 2006
Ok, this is just a small update (with a stupid title) to say that I’ve do a few rather cosmetic modifications to my website. These include:
- Removing the ‘My Music’ section from the sidebar - It was causing a slow down of the entire site loading as it forced your pathetic little PCs to retrieve data from the poor little servers at last.fm. Delay of almost 10 seconds sometimes - unacceptable.
- Updating my profile on the website - I now have lots more information I’ve written, including a small about me section, in which I briefly describe how much of an absolute genius I am. Well, something like that…
- Adding more photographs to the gallery - Yes, you heard that right kiddy-winks. I have finally added more photographs. These are from ‘John’s Day of Photoness (TM)’, so you can’t steal them or John The Ninja Pirate will officially kill you and sue you (in that order).
- Putting in a link to my wish list - No one ever seems to know what to get me as gifts. I always get people asking me what I want, so I’ve decided here would be a good place to include what I wanted for everyone to see. It’s currently only an Amazon.co.uk wish list, but I may include others at a later date.
- Making increased accessibility via a text-only version of the the website - Not a lot to say here. It took a while to get working properly, the link it just under the main website logo, to the right.
Besides that, other modification include only technical optimisation of the code to speed up loading slightly. So now the website should be as slick as oil, even you weird people who don’t have 2 dual-core server-grade CPUs powering your main workstation PC.
Yes, I know CPUs have nothing to do with download times; that is an issue of latency and bandwidth. Only rendering times are affected directly by the central processing unit(s). I realise this is miniscule for most website, but thought I’d prevent someone from being too clever. That job is reserved for me, and me alone! By the way, I do actually have a PC of that power.
