Which way do you like to do?

By DivineOmega | April 24, 2007

Occasionally, and unfortunately I sometimes need to use Microsoft Windows. I recently updated my wireless card’s drivers and was presented with this brilliantly translated message. No worries though - new wireless card soon should fix a lot of bugs such as getting disconnected every few minutes (grr). I’ll miss messages like this though…

Worried

By DivineOmega | April 20, 2007

10 days without any posts… something must be wrong. Unlike one of my friends, it’s not been technical problems that have stopped me posting, but more work and personal problems that have been getting to me.

The plus of recent is that I have got my C++ assignment completed, and handed in on time, which is all well and good, with the mandatory demonstration of this program scheduled for the 27th of this month. With all hope this should go by fine.

The negatives. I have no job yet. If you’re one of my friends reading this, you’ll know I am doing a 4 year university course in which the 3rd year, which I am now approaching, should be an industrial placement. During this year, we gain work experience which hopefully increases our chances of being employed in the future. Unfortunately… I’ve not got any responses from any of the companies I have applied to. No one wants me.

Second issue. For the first time in my educational life, I honestly have a worry fear of failure. I feel I might not be able to get through my second year of university with the whole 120 CATS points needed to ensure my honours degree at the end of my course. I will admit this here to both myself, and anyone who reads it that I have not done as well as I could this year. I have messed it up, partly due to illness and partly due to a decrease in my work ethic to which I can attribute no known reason even myself.

If I do not get an industrial placement… then there is no work experience for me and I’ll have to enroll straight away into my final year. But even that idea can be scrapped if I can not pass my current year… I’m stressed, and I hate it.

These amongst other things, are what has made me be unsociable, boring and in fact, an unreasonable twat to too many people recently, and my apologies go out to all of you. In the time it’s taken me to write this I believe I will be able to sort things out one way or another. I hope. :(

My First C++ Core Dump

By DivineOmega | April 6, 2007

terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::out_of_range'
what(): vector::_M_range_check
Aborted (core dumped)

And what a beautiful thing it is too. Stupid me tried to access memory out of bounds of my vector. I love how it states ‘what()’ as if mocking my intelligent. Damn the compiler and damn its smugness.

Made My Day

By DivineOmega | April 2, 2007

Guess what made my day today?

divineomega@crystal:~/University/Semester 2/C++/Assignment/Code$ c++ main.cpp
divineomega@crystal:~/University/Semester 2/C++/Assignment/Code$

Woohoo! Those two lines alone are just so satisfying…

And myString.c_str() is just a beautiful function even if it is a bit of a hack. It does the job wonderfully. Slowly, C++ is being fought into the ground. :D

Note for non-programmers: I have not gone insane, the above strings words do actually make sense in the coding world.

The Apple iBox Gaming Console

By DivineOmega | March 30, 2007

So everyone has heard all the haha jokes mocking Apple Mac users. “You can play games! I’m a PC, I can run games”. Now I won’t go into the complications of someone actually being a PC, or the inconsistency in the way Apple use the abbreviation within their advertisements.

However, fear not Apple users. For now you have a gaming platform all of your own, and boy does it look… weird. ;)
