Lateral Thinking Puzzle #2

By DivineOmega | September 17, 2006

A woman watched her husband plunge head first down a deep ravine. She returned home to find him in the kitchen, chopping onions. How is this possible?

Congratulations to ‘Bobbikk’, ‘Grimore’ and ‘The Prince Of Wales’ for the correct answer, which was that the husband was indeed, a stuntman and his wife was observing him at work.

It seems I am being challenged by visitors for a change. ‘The Prince Of Wales’ posed the puzzle:

A man lives on the twelfth floor of an apartment building. Every morning he takes the elevator down to the lobby and leaves the building. In the evening, he gets into the elevator, and, if there is someone else in the elevator — or if it was raining that day — he goes back to his floor directly. Otherwise, he goes to the tenth floor and walks up two flights of stairs to his apartment.

After much thought, I think the man is vertically-challenged. Due to his short stature, when returning in the evening he is unable to reach the twelfth floor elevator button unless someone else is with him in the elevator. Therefore can only reach the tenth floor button, and thus has to walk the extra two flight of stairs to his apartment. However… I can not explain the rain…

If ‘The Prince Of Wales’ happens to revisit, do tell me if I’m on the right track with this one. I designate this recent riddle as ‘Lateral Thinking Puzzle #2′. If you can come up with a better answer than mine, or explain away the rain, do make your answer heard as a comment on this post.

The explanation for the rain is that he uses his umbrella to press the button for his floor.
