How to add Google Calendar to Evolution
By DivineOmega | July 16, 2006
If you use Google Calendar and the Linux Evolution PIM program then it can be useful to have your Google Calendar syncronised locally with Evolution. Doing this is simple, as Google helpfully provide remote access via ICAL.
- Go to http://www.google.com/calendar/
- Login if required
- Click the ‘Settings’ link in the top right
- Click the ‘Calendars’ tab
- Click the name of the calendar which you wish to import into Evolution
- To the right of ‘Private Address:’ click the green ICAL button
- Copy the URL provided
- Open Evolution. In GNOME systems this is located under the Applications -> Office/Internet Menu
- On Evolution, click File -> New -> Calendar
- In the dialog that appears change the ‘Type:’ to ‘On The Web’, ‘Name:’ to ‘Google Calendar’ and paste the copied URL into the ‘URL:’ textbox
- The new calendar is added and downloads the content from Google’s servers automatically
Note: The imported Google calendar is read-only in Evolution. This means you can not add events to your Google Calendar via Evolution. To do this you must use Google’s web-based client at http://www.google.com/calendar/.
