Game By The Brain

Space Invaders controlled by the Brain

“… a 14-year-old who suffers from epilepsy, is the first teenager to play a two-dimensional video game, Space Invaders, using only the signals from his brain to make movements.”

A team of neurosurgeons, neurologists, and engineers at Washington University in St. Louis have created a way of controlling simplistic computer games via thought alone.

The teenager who performed the test was equipped with a grid of sensors (shown above) which read the brain surface signals. These were then interpreted by the computer system, converted and finally sent the games as standard input. The interface senses electrocorticography (ECoG) activity - data taken directly from the brain surface, via an electronic probe implanted within the brain.

Good idea… but how long will we have to wait before brain implants are acceptable as a new game controller? Counter-Strike Source anyone?
